Dr Thwin completed his basic medical degree (MBBS) from the Institute of Medicine (1), Yangon, Myanmar. He pursued basic medical training at Yangon General Hospital in Myanmar and at London King's College Hospital and Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals in the United Kingdom then he obtained the Membership of the Royal College of Physician, MRCP (UK). He later became the fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
He received advanced specialist training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the National University Hospital Singapore and attained accreditation by the Specialist Accreditation Board, Singapore Medical Council and became the fellow of Academy of Medicine of Singapore. He was awarded the Specialty Certificate in Gastroenterology from the Federation of Royal College of Physicians and British Society of Gastroenterology of the United Kingdom. He completed advanced fellowship training in Transplant Hepatology at the Institute of Liver Studies, King's College Hospital (London).
Dr Thwin was appointed as a consultant gastroenterologist and hepatologist in National University Hospital and an assistant professor of Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in National University of Singapore until he joined Gleneagles Hospital in 2016.
